Two men who attacked an RCMP officer during a traffic stop and left him unconscious at the side of a rural road won’t be going to jail.
Leon Leclerc and Jerry Lamar have been sentenced to house arrest after the attack in July 2014 near Pritchard, B.C.
A vehicle driven by Lamar was stopped by RCMP Constable Paul Koester, Leclerc was a passenger.
Koester suspected that Lamar had been drinking and launched an impaired driving investigation, but the situation went quickly downhill.
Koester was attacked, his head was stomped on and the pair fled.
The officer was rescued by a passerby.
Lamar and Leclerc pleaded guilty to a charge of assaulting a peace officer engaged in the execution of his duty.
The crown had been seeking jail terms of up to 18 months.
