Premier Christy Clark is putting a former Canfor chief executive officer and federal cabinet minister on the Softwood Lumber file.
David Emerson has been named B.C.’s Trade Envoy to the United States.
His job will be to help secure a new lumber agreement.
As federal minister of international trade, Emerson signed the Softwood Lumber Agreement in 2006 that brought the fourth Canada-U.S. lumber dispute to an end.
Emerson has a somewhat controversial political past, jumping ship over a decade ago and leaving the Liberals so he could land a cabinet post with the Harper Conservatives.
