It was an expensive and uncomfortable family day for a pair of people driving dangerously on Highway 99 near Lions Bay.
Constable Jeff Palmer with the West Van PD says an unmarked cruiser spotted the pair doing 40-kilometers over the posted speed limit with the passenger standing in the sunroof shooting a video.
“The sound of the siren startled the passenger, he loses his grip on his cell phone, it smashes apparently into a number of pieces on the roadway. Startles the driver, who then taps the brakes right as his passenger is trying to get back down through the sunroof. And that ends up jostling the passenger with his shoulders and his head banging on the sides of the sunroof.”
Palmer says the driver was ticketed for speeding, while the passenger got both a bruise on the forehead, and a ticket for no seat belt.
