The province of Quebec injected $1 billion cash and a $1.5 billion investment into Bombardier for their much behind and over budget C-Series passenger jet.
But political pressure was put on the Feds to meet that amount, even as Bombardier has shown that the money was not now necessary to produce the jets.
However, the unexpected winning of 40 of Quebec’s 78 seats in the last election has put the pressure on the Liberals to sweeten the pot with a $372.5 million interest-free repayable loans.
This has now brought a formal complaint by Brazil’s Embraer, the C- series competitor, to the World Trade Organization of unfair subsidies.
The WTO complaint may go nowhere or take years to resolve, but it is obvious the Feds know how to further feather their political nest, with the interest-free loan, or should I say gift to Bombardier.
