Investigators say a man thought to be lost on Cypress Mountain has been located safe – and was in fact, never lost at all.
West Vancouver Police and North Shore Rescue launched a search for Seattle man Yao Gu after his car was found abandoned in the Cypress downhill parking lot.
Investigators say he drove it up from Seattle Wednesday, and it sat in the lot since then.
It teed off a cross-border correspondence with police in Washington, and called rescue crews into action in unforgiving conditions.
Constable Jeff Palmer with West Vancouver Police says it turns out the man wasn’t feeling well and abandoned his vehicle to get off the mountain with another car.
Palmer says if there was a note indicating that, it would’ve saved time.
“It wasn’t necessary to call them away from their daily lives to go put themselves in whatever hazards there is on the mountain to look for someone who wasn’t missing in the first place.”
A lesson learned: A little communication goes a long way.
