One person is dead after a head-on collision on Highway 1 at 176th street in Surrey.
Police are still on scene investigating, but say it appears an eastbound pickup truck crossed the median and slammed into a westbound SUV.
The driver of the SUV, a 29-year-old, died at the scene, while the truck’s driver has been taken to hospital with unspecified injuries.
No identities have been released.
The crash, which happened shortly after 5 p.m. caused a major rush hour traffic disruption.
Westbound traffic was blocked at 176th for several hours – at first with a detour onto 200th street, then later a detour onto 176th.
Two eastbound lanes were also closed as emergency crews attended the scene.
No word yet on what caused the crash, or whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
Anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to contact the Port Mann Highway Patrol at 604-526-9744.
