Swimmers will soon get a chance to dive into UBC’s new Point Grey campus aquatic facility.
The $39-million building will include recreational, competitive and leisure pools.
Recreation Senior Director Kavie Toor says the centre combines all parts of the swimming experience.
“All the design of this facility was around the principle of toddlers swimming next to Olympians we really wanted the idea of that we could have a pool that has a high-performance element as well as a recreation and community element which we found doesn’t exist anywhere in Canada.”
He says the centre will conserve water by re-using rain and spilled pool water.
“All that pool water is captured and treated through multiple filtration devices and used to top up the pool so that for us is going to save 5.4-million litres of water per year.”
The facility is officially set to open next Monday.
