Any would-be pond skaters in Vancouver will be out of luck on Sunday.
In a tweet, the Vancouver Park Board say Trout Lake’s outdoor skating area will be closed for safety reasons.
They say anybody still dead-set on skating can visit any one of their eight indoor rinks.
The board opened Trout Lake for skating on Wednesday for the first time in over a decade, and as recently as Friday board chair Michael Wiebe said the warming conditions shouldn’t affect it. That said, board staff does regularly inspect the ice for safety.
Wiebe tweeted that staff will be evaluating the conditions this morning and assess the skating situation on Monday.
The last time conditions allowed for skating on Trout Lake was back in 1996.
