The Independent Investigations Office has cleared Nanaimo RCMP of any involvement in the death of a man found in a car-rental parking lot Monday.
Cst. Gary O’Brien says the police watchdog was called in, because police were alerted to a possible incident with the 27-year-old a couple of days earlier.
“There was a call for assistance to a local home on New Years’ Eve. The deceased was at that party. He was asked to leave by the people in the residence, and he did. When we attended to the home, he was gone.”
O’Brien say they did not locate the man before passerby found him dead.
He says an autopsy will be done to confirm the cause of death.
The IIO investigate deaths or serious injuries where police have been involved.
