The first McDonalds restaurant in Canada opened in Richmond in 1967.
As the 50 year anniversary approaches, the company wants to re-develop the historic No.3 Road location.
City Councillor Bill McNulty says preserving the location is very important.
“I mean when you see those golden arches what do you think of eh?”
“People tell me they walked from Richmond High across Bridgehouse to McDonalds to get their hamburgers. So it has a lot of history within the community,” he says.
A proposal has been approved by the development panel and a report will be presented to council.
As for the iconic golden arches?
They will be refurbished and relocated for everyone to see.
