Statistics Canada is out with 2015 police impaired driving numbers across the country and three B.C. cities are in the top 10.
The new report shows Kelowna is number two on the list with 323 incidents per 100,000 population.
Next on the list at Number four is Victoria with 271.
And Abbotsford-Mission coming in at number eight with 218.
Constable Ian MacDonald with Abbotsford police says the number have been constant the last few years.
“Regrettably, just like we continue to struggle with issues like distracted driving, impaired driving hasn’t gone away. It’s going to need continue and enforcement and education, not just for Abbotsford, but for everywhere.”
In 2015, the highest police-reported impaired driving rate was among drivers aged 20 to 24 at 480 incident per 100,000 drivers.
Statistics Canada says almost half of all impaired driving incidents occurred between 11:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m.
Nearly half of all incidents occurred on weekends with peak times between 2 and 3 a.m.
Of the 72,000 incidents, 122 were fatal.
