Tired of long taxi waits during the holiday season?
Vancouver City Council has approved an emergency motion to increase the number of taxis on the roads this December.
The motion comes after council voted last month to extend a moratorium on new taxi licenses pending a provincial review of ride-sharing.
Now, city council has temporarily rescinded it.
At a council meeting, Councillor Elizabeth Ball says it’s about safety during the holiday season.
“We don’t want people to be drinking and not taking cabs because they are not available. We don’t want seniors who have disabilities to not get to something that’s important to them during this particular time.”
It’s unclear how many extra cabs will be in rotation.
