Loved ones of Florence Leung are calling for more support to be given to mother’s suffering from postpartum depression.
The body of the 32-year-old New Westminster mom was found in the waters near Bowen Island on Tuesday, almost three weeks since she went missing from her home.
Friend, James Chang, says they will now focus on raising awareness for postpartum depression.
“People who are working to help mothers who are suffering from postpartum depression, raise awareness, end the stigma. There has been some very sad comments about how people don’t understand this mental illness. It’s a very slow healing process.”
Chang says they also want to focus on healing.
“First and foremost, is make sure Aidan is well-taken care of and number two, is to remember Florence, how she lived, not the tragic ending that turned out. We want people to remember Florence Leung’s life and how she was very compassionate and caring to others.”
Chang says the family will hold a memorial service late next week.
