Vancouver City Council has approved two new rental buildings along the 400-block of West Pender.
The site will include new 11-storey mixed use buildings, as well as 140 new rental homes.
The homes include studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom residences.
“In this housing affordability crisis, the City continues to pursue all tools and options available to get housing built and to market as quickly as possible so that local residents have a diversity of options to choose from,” read a statement from Mayor Gregor Robertson.
Half of the total units will be studio homes, while about a quarter each will be one and two bedroom residences.
A release from the city says the new homes are “badly needed” as Vancouver’s vacancy rate continues to hover near zero.
