The man shot and killed by Vancouver Police at the Canadian Tire in East Vancouver has now been identified.
The BC Coroners Service confirms it was 38-year-old Daniel Rintoul of Vancouver who died after being shot by Police last Thursday. Police say he originally came from Alberta.
Police say Rintoul, who was more than six feet tall and weighed nearly 400 lbs, stabbed a store employee, then began grabbing guns before taking an 82-year-old man hostage and trying to make his way out of the store. and a Police officer after a botched robbery.
When he reached the door, he met responding police officers, and investigators say he stabbed an officer in the head and abdomen before being shot dead.
The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) continues to investigate police actions.
