In day to day conversation it might be too early to start talking about the holidays.
But for U.S. retailers it’s a different story as they look to ready themselves for the holiday shopping season, and look to get a head start on when they traditionally start looking to increase their workforce.
Data from one job listings site, Indeed.com shows retailers and by extension the warehouse and logistics jobs associated with fulfillment have started looking for seasonal labour as early as August this year, according to this morning’s Wall Street Journal.
This follows last year when more than 25% of retail workers hired in the final three months of the year began in October, which is the highest share since the 1930’s.
A few conclusions are that retailers prepping for strong consumer demand this holiday season, and also signs of a tight U.S. labour market, especially in that particular segment of retail and warehouse jobs.
