About a dozen high school students from Gladstone, Killarney and Prince of Wales gathered in front of the Vancouver School Board Headquarters asking Education Minister Mike Bernier to re-instate all former board trustees.
Ronic Parmer held a declaration with 18 signatures asking Mike Bernier reinstate all nine trustees.
“To stand in solidarity with the democratically elected School Board who was fired, not over balancing a budget, but was fired for political reasons.”
He says the future lies in the hands of one trustee that was appointed by the B.C. Liberals.
“This person has a lot of power. This person represents all nine trustees that were fired. This person can really make any decision she wants, and there is no opposition and there will be no questions asked.”
And if that doesn’t happen student Kaitlin Wong says they’ll make a hefty demand.
“We want the province and the VSB to work alongside each other and to be some sort of election or by-election or some way that the people of Vancouver can have a say in who gets to control the Vancouver School Board.”
Wong and other students say Bernier is playing politics.
Students left the signed declaration for appointed trustee Dianne Turner at the VSB office and say they will mail a copy to the Minister of Education.
Bernier fired the board earlier this week.
