A native youth centre is one step closer to reality in Vancouver, with a huge donation from a company that specializes in production of synthetic crude from the oil sands.
The center will be the first of its kind in Canada, a $90-million multi-purpose facility at Hastings and Commercial which will include affordable homes.
Suncor Energy has provided $9.5-million dollars in-kind donation of the land.
NPA councillor George Affleck is calling the acceptance of the donation hypocrisy, in light of the fact he says the Vision-dominated council feels the oil industry and pipelines have no value to the city.
The city has funded half a million dollars for pre-development costs.
