A former Green Party Candidate says he’s shocked the City of Vancouver has failed to clean up drug paraphernalia at a local park in Vancouver’s Strathcona neighborhood Friday morning.
Community activist Pete Fry says a local childcare worker called him early in the morning to report what she found at MacLean Park
“She had brought her kids down to the park and there was assorted needles, and bedding, and trash all sort of tucked under the jungle gym there in the playground.”
“She called 3-1-1 twice actually, apparently on the second call they were rude to her, and by 3:30 it still hadn’t been cleaned.”
Hours later, Fry went to clean the mess himself.
“The fact that I have to do it after work and the city let that city for at least seven hours since they were first called is pretty outrageous.”
“As a testament to the kids of this neighborhood, they were happily just playing round it and ignoring it.”
He adds it’s a park children frequent daily.
CKNW has reached out to the City of Vancouver for comment.
