This year’s numbers show interest for B.C. camping is on the rise, but it seems the numbers have been going up for a while.
The number of camping reservations in BC has gone up by 47 per cent in the last five years.
The numbers jumped from less than 97,000 in 2011 to more than 182,000 this year.
The Ministry of Environment was under fire this summer as people called their reservation system “unfair” and complained about the lack of sites available for BC residents.
But the Ministry says there are more than 10,000 campsites available and about half of them are reservable.
The online reservation system has been in place since 1996.
A look at the numbers:
2016 – 182,523 (as of 9/6/16)
2015 – 158,809
2014 – 133,839
2013 – 119,908
2012 – 106,926
2011 – 96,878
