The PNE is hoping to cash in on the Pokemon Go extravaganza.
With the Opening Day of The Fair on Saturday, the PNE will be offering free admission to Pokemon Go players from 11 a.m. to noon, and will be dropping virtual lures at the many PokeStops throughout the fairgrounds.
PNE spokesperson Laura Ballance says it’s a new experiment they’re trying out to get people inside.
“We believe that the majority of the people that are playing the game are young adults and we thought this would be a fun way to engage with the young demographic and bring them into the fairgrounds.”
It’s a tactic many small businesses have tried with varying degrees of success.
All players have to do to get inside is show the app on their phone.
Ballance says the PNE isn’t worried about droves of players walking through the grounds looking at their phones.
“We’ll see if it becomes a problem here but it’s something that should be successful. We’ve got a big site at 114 acres and not sure how many people will participate in this but if it’s a few hundred people it’s not something that should be a problem.”
She says the PNE will also have a pair of free admission days on Tuesdays as they do annually.
