Homicide investigators have been dispatched to the Surrey Pretrial Services Centre where a man died overnight after an inmate altercation.
Police say both men were awaiting court appearances on different matters and didn’t know each other.
According to a release from IHIT, correctional officers intervened during the altercation around 7:30 p.m. last night and separated the two inmates. The 25-year old male victim was transported to hospital, but did not survive his injuries.
“IHIT is working with the Integrated Forensic Identification Section, the Surrey RCMP, the Surrey Pretrial Services Centre, and the BC Coroner’s Service to help piece together the factors that led up to the altercation, and subsequent death of the male victim,” says Corporal Meghan Foster.
No names have been released, and homicide charges have not been approved at this time.
More on this as it becomes available.
