It was a close one, with the Calgary Stampeders edging the BC Lions 44-41 in overtime late Friday night.
Just a few minutes in BC notched 8 onto the board with a 67 yard punt return and 2 point conversion, which would be offset with Calgary’s Parades making a field goal just minutes later.
Leone would later whiff a punt for a single point, ending the first quarter 9-3 for BC.
The Lions exploded out of the gate in the second quarter with a touchdown followed by another single, stretching their lead to 17-3.
Calgary would narrow BC’s lead to 17-13 after a field goal and touchdown, followed by a second field goal to close out the first half 17-16.
The second half opened to BC completing a touchdown and field goal within the first 5 minutes, followed by a second touchdown/field goal combo to finish the third quarter with a wide 34-19 lead.
That lead would be short-lived though, with Calgary starting its rally to a tie with a touchdown less than a minute into the 4th quarter, followed by a single several minutes later.
BC would extend its lead to 41-26 after another touchdown with less than 5 minutes to go in the 4th.
The Stampeders rallied with two touchdowns and a 2-point conversion to wrap up the 4th quarter 41-41, sending the game into OT.
Parades nailed a field goal for Calgary, eventually ending the game with a 44-41 victory for the Stampeders.
BC next plays on Thursday in Montreal.
