We now know more about an apartment fire in Coquitlam that displaced 89 residents, among them more than 50 Syrian refugees.
The fire that scorched the three storey low-rise complex did enough damage to permanently destroy two of the four building units.
A release from the City of Coquitlam says residents living in two of four building units at 550 Cottonwood Avenue will not be returning home.
Coquitlam’s Fire Chief says Building Unit 21, where the fire started, will not be reoccupied and the firewall in Building Unit 20 was damaged.
The city anticipates residents of the other two units can return home by end the week once a number of safety conditions are met.
The release says representatives of the property will be available this weekend for residents to speak with.
Coquitlam Officials have activated a fundraising site for residents affected by the fire.
