A 23-year-old foreign national has died and two other people were injured in a pedestrian-involved collision with a car this afternoon on Granville Island.
Vancouver police say it happened around 12:30pm in the 1600-block of Anderson Street.
Sergeant Randy Fincham wouldn’t identify the victim, but said the young woman was visiting Canada and police were working to contact the victim’s family to notify them.
Not much is known about the driver involved in the collision, but Fincham says it appears the crash wasn’t intentional; he adds that police will be looking at all factors, including the possibility alcohol or drugs could be involved.
The two people suffered minor injuries, but a third person was pinned under the vehicle and died.
How the collision happened remains unknown.
Callers to our sister station AM730 Traffic previously reported an out of control carat the scene.
“What happened is the car accidentally… The lady saw it going., she jumped in and hit the gas… It backed into a building crushing a person that got stuck under a car and the person under the car does not look good.”
“A woman, pinned under or against… Under the car? Against the wall, and under the vehicle against the wall.”
