If you’re hoping to catch The Tragically Hip in Vancouver for their farewell tour, there’s still tickets available and for a reasonable price.
Hours before showtime, seats are going on ticket flipping site StubHub for as little as $80.
Kingsley Bailey with Vancouver Tickets says the price drop could be linked to scalpers getting greedy.
“When people saw how crazy those prices were, a lot of people said ‘You know what, I’m just going to wait to watch the broadcast, the live show in Kingston. I’m sure that really alienated a lot of fans who said you know, this is just too pricey.”
And with prices – at least for the nosebleeds- now plummeting back to Earth, he says many scalpers could get burned.
“If they went and speculated on any kind of ticket they definitely lost. The fans want good seats for a show of this magnitude.”
Ticket prices had originally soared and shows sold out instantly when it was announced Tragically Hip frontman Gord Downie had terminal brain cancer.
On Craigslist, last-minute deals are still going at high prices, from anywhere between $100 per ticket to $700 for a pair of club seats.
The Better Business Bureau has cautioned the public about fake tickets making the rounds and when dealing with scalpers, saying if a deal appears too good to be true, it probably is.
