Constable Brian Montague with the VPD is reasonably happy with how the first night of the annual fireworks competition went.
“It went really well, we had a great crowd, family oriented, everyone was pretty well behaved”
He says it wasn’t the biggest crowd, with an early estimate between 250 and 300 thousand.
Although they did have a few arrests.
“I think it was four, and they were for pretty minor incidents. We had an incident where a couple people were fighting with each other, and some individuals that were overly intoxicated.”
Montague says they were removed before they could cause any serious trouble.
He adds so far there were only about a couple hundred liquor pour-outs as well.
“Last year I think we were looking at three and four hundred liquor pour-outs for each of the nights, if memory serves me right.”
The first night the Netherlands put on their show.
Australia is up next on Wednesday.
