“Yah, it was an absolutely sickening incident that happened yesterday afternoon.”
That’s Abbotsford Police Constable Ian MacDonald, talking about the beating and robbery of an 86-year-old man in a walker, in his apartment building in the 2800-block of Clearbrook Road.
Police say a suspect followed the man into his home, left him bleeding on the floor while he took jewelry and a wallet, and then fled.
The victim was found 40-minutes later by his wife, and was rushed to hospital.
“It hits us in a place where we just feel sick. These are people, I mean everybody in your community should be safe, but when you’re talking about vulnerable people, you know seniors that have lived a long and mostly happy life and then they have this take place in their community, in their home, it’s hard to think of many more things that are higher in the heinous scale.”
A 45-year-old man was later tracked down after using the victim’s credit card at a local business.
Charges are pending, including robbery, break-and-enter, and aggravated assault.
