The body of a 21-year-old man has been recovered near Chehalis Lake near Chilliwack.
The 21-year-old was on a camping trip with family and friends over the weekend.
He went for a drive with a friend when their car broke down on a logging road, 12km from the campsite.
Neil Brewer with the Kent Harrison Search and Rescue Team.
“One of the males said he would go back to the campsite and get another vehicle and come back and pick his friend up. He did that, but when he got back to the car, the friend was nowhere to be found.”
The search ended Monday when a family friend noticed the young man’s body in a canyon.
“His location was one kilometer downstream from the end of Chehalis Lake, where the Chehalis River drains.”
“It was a very difficult recovery. We did recover the fatality but we only did it with minutes to spare, before we lost daylight.”
The name of the 21-year-old has not been released.
The Coroners Service is now in charge of the investigation.
