Vancouver Police Department says the long weekend’s Counter Attack road checks are a “reminder to plan ahead.”
Constable Brian Montague says this Thursday alone 10 impaired drivers were taken off the road.
He says drivers can end up paying thousands of dollars after being caught.
“A fair number of individuals make that bad decision of drinking and getting behind the wheel of a car. We’ll also deal with individuals that will likely use drugs and get behind the wheel of a car. In both cases we’re going to take their license, we’re going to take their car, and in some case we’ll charge them criminally.”
He says the number of fatalities increases during the summer.
Constable Brian Montague says it’s not only unsafe – but also very costly.
“You have impound fees, there are fees attached to a number of things, there’s potentially lawyer fees, court costs. There’s a whole host of fees that come with losing your license and losing your car.”
