The proposed idea, called Hawkers Wharf, would be a place for food entrepreneurs to start their business.
There’s an environmental aspect, as well – vendors will be working out of re-purposed shipping containers with a kitchen built inside.
Chris Jerome is the man behind the idea.
“I think we’re really going back to the roots of what traditional food market places are like.”
“There are about 800 thousand shipping containers decommissioned per year that are used globally, so there’s a great excess of these materials… but I would say a few of them get recycled into projects like ours.”
Jerome says there will be 23 food vendors
He adds it would be a destination for meals, groceries, and outdoor entertainment.
It will will be located on Harbourside Drive, behind the North Shore Auto Mall.
It’s scheduled to open in August.
