Vancouver is the costliest city in Canada, but attractive to expats from companies around the world – that’s according to the latest Mercer’s “Cost of Living Survey.”
Spokesperson Gordon Frost says the low Canadian dollar also means a greater challenge for Canadian companies placing their employees in cities abroad.
“If they’ve got an employer whose paying for some of their costs, either costs of housing or other expat costs, than it can be challenging for the employer to figure out what they should pay.”
Frost says Canadian cities dropped significantly in this year’s ranking, due to the weak Canadian dollar.
Vancouver is ranked the 142nd costliest in the world, followed closely by Toronto at 143rd and Montreal at 155th.
