The B.C. Government has purchased the former Central Care Home, and will use it to offer more than 140 additional housing units for local homeless people, including people camped out at the local tent city in Victoria.
The province bought the building for $11-million, and will convert it to long-term “supportive housing.”
Some people at the homeless camp indicate they have no desire to leave, and plan on digging in for the long haul.
The province is back in court on June 27th, seeking an injunction to remove the tent city.
