Transit Police says it has identified the three suspects involved in a story we brought you yesterday.
In a statement, spokesperson Anne Drennan says the three men in question have been interviewed, and the investigation continues.
A Good Samaritan ended up in hospital after intervening when three thugs sexually harassed a woman on SkyTrain.
It happened on Thursday, June 9 at around 11:30 pm, when the woman was surrounded by three men on a train heading east from Sperling Station.
“Their comments initially were more general in nature, saying to one woman ‘we are going to follow you off the train’ and then just making generally disrespectful remarks about women until the one suspect sat down beside this particular woman and began talking about raping her etc. to his friends.”
At that point, another man riding the train told Suspect 1 to leave the woman alone. Suspect 1 started swearing at the man and threatened to follow him off the train. When the Samaritan got off at Lougheed Station, two suspects followed him off and punched him.
“This is bad all round in that it was a situation where these three men were bullying women on the SkyTrain and when a man who is a good Samaritan tries to intervene…put himself between the fellows who were bullying the women and the one woman they were referring to with respect to rape etc. he gets punched out for his efforts.”
The yellow emergency call strip
The Samaritan then got back on the train, held the door open to stop it, and pushed the yellow strip.
Drennan says Transit Police arrived four minutes after the attack, but the suspects had already fled.
Passengers are reminded to press the emergency strip as soon as an emergency or threatening situation begins to unfold.
