A small victory for Port Coquitlam residents that have been opposed to the growing monster homes in their community.
City council passed a by-law to restrict the size of homes that are allowed on agricultural land.
Councilor Brad West says the agricultural regions are intended for growing food and to feed their communities.
“off-shore investors were coming in, buying up farm land, building huge mansions and taking that farm land away from farmers to be able to farm it.”
He says council decided to limit the size of homes to 5300 square feet, cutting the size of homes almost in half being built already.
