The Vancouver School Board is looking to rename MacDonald Elementary School.
CKNW received some calls and emails asking… and we took those questions to VSB Chair Mike Lombardi.
“There was a motion that came from the Parent Advisory Council asking to consider renaming school in light of it being an Aboriginal focused school. The PAC had a unanimous recommendation to our board.”

Lombardi says the curriculum is taught through an aboriginal lens.
“A number of the teachers have aboriginal background and information and our youth workers have aboriginal ancestry.”
“It’s open to anybody who wants to attend and it’s been in operation for two to three years”
The Board is also looking to the public for a second name for a school opening up in the International Village area.
The name must meet certain conditions: it must be a nod to the geographical area, or recognize someone posthumously who has contributed to the community.
