The Corporation of Delta has filed its first petition in B.C. Supreme Court to shut down a marijuana shop operating illegally.
But while it’s the first for Delta, it’s the second for the dispensary in question.
The WeeMedical Dispensary Society is facing 30 Delta bylaw notices, and fines totaling just under $12,000 thousand dollars on top of the court action.
Still, Director May Liu says its Delta Location will continue to operate business as usual
“There has been less people coming in and people have been getting their goods confiscated strangely enough by the RCMP from Surrey.”
Delta Mayor Lois Jackson says the city is playing by the rules.
“Selling and dispensing of marijuana publically is against the federal law, we obey the federal laws here in delta.”
Liu says she has no plans to pay fines and has disputed all 30 notices.
Last month, the city of Chilliwack filed an injunction to shut down WeeMedical’s location in the Fraser Valley city.
That came after the location was raided twice, and racked up $44,000 in fines.
