There are still about 11,000 people holding out against smart meters in BC.
Alex Bronevitch of Mission is one of them who’s been receiving letters from BC Hydro threatening disconnection.
“It kind of puts you on edge you don’t know if one day you’re going to come home and your lights will be out and you don’t know if that’s due to a windstorm or is somebody has said we’re going to teach these people a lesson and we’re gonna cut ’em off because they don’t want to do what we want them to do.”
Hydro’s Greg Alexis is asked what’s happening to these hold-outs like Bronevitch.
“So when we announced the Meters Choices Program back in 2013 we said eligible customers could keep an old meter as long as the certification seal was in tact however as the certification seals expire we need to replace the expired meters with either a radio off meter of a smart meter.”
Alexis says Hydro will continue to work with customers and he says disconnection is a last resort.
