The search in the Fraser River for a missing Burnaby man has been called off.
Surrey RCMP say the 32-year-old man was with a group who were drinking and decided to try and swim around the Skytrain bridge pillar and back to shore at around 2am Saturday morning.
Police say the man was seen going under the water and did not resurface.
Surrey RCMP and the Coast Guard searched for several hours this morning.
The man’s name is not being released until police notify the next-of-kin.
Police do not suspect foul play.
