Over 3000 special needs kids packed into Playland today for the 44th annual CKNW Orphans Fund Picnic.
The children who attend the picnic generally have challenges that would inhibit their enjoyment at Playland with the general public, so this day is incredibly special for these kids.
Big day for the kids
Jen Schaeffers is the executive director of the CKNW Orphans’ Fund, she says that some people think it’s not that exciting to have a day to themselves at Playland.
“But it is for these kids. It’s a day they remember every year, and they can’t wait to come each year.”
Almost every available school bus was used to transport the children from roughly 200 schools across Metro Vancouver.
