More than two-and-a-half years after a Port Coquitlam teenager was struck and killed in a hit-and-run, the elderly man behind the wheel of a truck may finally learn his fate.
It’s been 14 months since 75-year-old Irwin Franz pleaded guilty to failing to stop at the scene of an accident, causing the death of 16-year-old Annie Leung.
And since then, the elderly driver has rescheduled court date after court date.
A sentencing hearing is expected to finally take place this afternoon, years after Leung’s mother Maggie made an emotional plea for the driver to turn himself in.
“We can forgive you, and we believe Annie…she would forgive you too as she was such a kind, a caring child.”
After his arrest, Franz told the Province newspaper he panicked after the crash and left because he was distraught.
