The Independent Investigations Office is seeking witnesses from Tuesday’s police-involved shooting.
The Independent Investigations Office has that task of determining whether a police officer is at fault in “officer-related incidents of death or serious harm.”
Spokesperson Marten Youssef says investigators also need the people who posted videos of the incident to come forward.
“A number of people who witnessed this incident may have taken pictures or video during or after the incident took place. These witnesses are also asked to contact the IIO even if they may have posted pictures or video on the incident on social media.”
The incident happened between 1:30 and 2:30 p.m. in the McDonald’s parking lot on Hastings and Cassiar.
Youssef also says the pictures and videos people posted on social media are not suitable evidence for investigators to use because they could have been edited.
“The original is what’s actually taken on the phone and to ensure that we’re doing our due diligence with our investigations we need to make sure we actually have the original.”
Youssef also stressed that first person accounts of what happened are important.
“It’s not just the footage or the pictures that we’re after. We also need the information of the individuals who may have actually taken those videos.”
The man involved was taken to hospital with non life threatening injuries.
The IIO says anyone who was around the scene before, during or after can contact the IIO directly.
