If you’re planning on taking in the Grouse Grind over the next few days, a word of warning.
There have been a number of cougar sightings on the popular trail.
North Shore Rescue team leader Mike Danks says a patrol member spotted a cougar on Tuesday.
“One of our patrollers did see a cougar around the 3/4 mark on the Grouse Grind mark, it was headed for the tram.”
However he adds it’s important to note the cougar did not show any signs of hostility.
“The behaviour of the cougar was not disconcerning whatsoever. It didn’t pay any attention to the member, and I understand there were a couple sightings as well. But at this point we’re recommending people travel with a partner for hiking safety.”
Danks says the key is making a lot of noise and never turning your back if you happen to spot the cougar.
