The Independent Investigations Office of BC has confirmed they are looking into an incident involving West Shore RCMP and a single vehicle collision.
According to Global News a source says the man in the driver’s seat is the same person who was behind the wheel of the truck that struck and killed Constable Beckett on April 5 2016.
The source said West Shore RCMP went to shut down a party on a logging road in Langford, B.C. and went to pursue a truck when it crashed.
The driver was sent to Victoria General Hospital with a neck injury.
But the IIO’s Marten Youssef would not confirm any link between that driver and the driver involved in the Sarah Beckett incident.
“There’s a serious injury, the main focus is to determine if there is a connection to a serious injury and second if there is a connection to that injury between the actions or inaction of police.”
“Our investigations, even though there may be connections between them in general whether it’s the same subject officer whether it’s the same location, whether it’s the same detachment–or anything like this, we investigate them separately.”
No charges were ever laid following the death of Constable Beckett, who was struck by a pickup truck in Langford in April.
While the IIO would not comment if the man in Sunday’s incident is the same driver in the crash that claimed Beckett’s life, Youssef says more information will be released Tuesday.
