Danielle Kvick, a former B.C. woman who lived in Abbotsford is one of many who recently discovered she had lost her Fort McMurray home due to the devastating wildfires.
It was how she discovered it that shocked her the most.
“A Police Officer is up in Fort McMurray right now and he’s taking pictures of the affected areas. We found it on Facebook actually.”
“We found a picture of our neighborhood on fire first….. about four houses down from us. And by the morning we had found pictures, and that told us our whole neighborhood had been leveled.”
She described it as gut-wrenching, heartbreaking, and devastating.
“We’ve seen pictures where we know where our house should be and there’s nothing there.”
“There’s a lot of shock, I mean it has sunk in, I have accepted that it’s gone now”
Kvick says she and her husband call Fort McMurray home, and while the immediate future is unclear, there’s one thing she does know for sure.
“All we really know is that my parents are fully planning on rebuilding the house back on the same lot.”
Kvick is currently staying in Red Deer with her grandparents.
