The new CEO of TransLink has made his first public address and tells the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade that the Compass Card system is already doing what it’s suppose to.
Kevin Desmond says since all of the fare gates closed at SkyTrain stations, revenue is up 7 per cent.
“It’s looking at the stations and there is some estimating going on but it is looking at just prior to the gate closures and just after the gate closures.”
In the meantime, Desmond wouldn’t comment on possible massive service disruptions if bus drivers and other transit workers go on strike.
He says they’re heading back to the bargaining table in the coming days and hope to reach an agreement.
Yesterday the unions representing 4700 transit workers announced a 98% strike mandate.
