A little over a year after it caused the English Bay fuel spill, the MV Marathassa has returned.
The Marathassa is scheduled to dock in Prince Rupert this evening at around 8PM.
This marks the first time the Cypress registered vessel has returned to B.C. waters since April 25th when Transport Canada gave it permission to leave after the English Bay fuel spill.
Just over a year ago, the vessel was responsible for a massive slick in English Bay after leaking thousands of litres of bunker fuel into the water.
The then-Harper government emphasized the polluter pay model but the company that owns the Marathassa has yet to pay dime of clean up costs.
The actual clean up cost itself are also a mystery.
The spill was reported twice around five in the afternoon but clean up crews weren’t on scene until 9:30pm and the Marathassa wasn’t boomed off until the following morning… 13 hours later.
