A lockdown at North Surrey Secondary has ended.
Surrey RCMP says the school was locked down just before 3pm, in relation to a weapons call at a home on the same street.
Police say students are now free to leave, but parents can pick them up from the south west corner of the school only. 160th Street remains closed to all traffic between 96th Avenue and 98th Avenue.
Several people inside the home have been detained and Mounties are investigating if charges will be laid.

Surrey school district spokesperson Doug Strachan says the lockdown was taken out of an abundance of caution.
“The school was asked by the RCMP to go into a lockdown while they investigated something in the area of the school. It’s unrelated to the school, but as a precaution, the school is locked up.”
Tense 90 minutes

Meanwhile, Cheryl Jensen a parent who called into CKNW says her husband went to pick up their son.
Jensen says her husband was told to clear the area and there are currently 16 police cars and Mounties have taped of the Chevron and McDonalds on 96th Ave and 160th Street.
“Four SWAT vehicles … arrived, and all the parents that are parked in the parking lot, they are not allowing anyone to leave, and they are shooing all the parents off to one side and not letting them even kind of stand around on the property. The school’s in lockdown, they’re not letting any of the kids out.”

“And they’re telling us to stay back, and they also have the helicopter up here, flying around as well. The RCMP helicopter. But we don’t know officially what’s going on.”
