Last week, the federal government announced marijuana will be legalized by next spring.
But what will legislation look like?
Marijuana lawyer Kirk Tousaw spoke on The Jill Bennett Show, and says the Liberals need to look at a couple key points.
“Number one, end the arrests. And number two, we need to begin to remove the black market from the equation. It takes a fairly long time because there is a fairly entrenched black market.”
Tousaw says that can be done by making the new industry accessible to consumers and participants and putting an emphasis on price quality and customer service.
He adds people in B.C. are still being arrested for possession with crown prosecuting many individuals.
But before legislation comes down, Tousaw says the Justice Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould should put a stop to arrests immediately.
