The Canadian Taxpayers Federation says it it hoping to make MSP payments a campaign issue in the next election.
This comes as the lobby group reveals the BC Government has written off millions of dollars owed by people who haven’t paid their Medical Service Premiums.
The CTF says its Freedom-of-Information research has found more than $340 million has been written off over the last 6 years with over $40-million of that just last year.
The group’s B.C. Director Jordan Bateman says pressure needs to be kept on the Provincial government to reform the way taxpayers pay for healthcare.
“We don’t want to let the government off the hook, they’re going to an election year next year so that means next February’s budget is an election budget.”
Bateman says the MSP rate has gone up almost 40% over the last five years.
